The plan to develop the Shrine of Our Lady of Katunayake is now successfully taking place. Therefore, the Sanctuary of Blessed Mother, which is situated in the Shrine Ground, has to be removed from its present location. This Statue of Blessed Mother will be removed from its present location and will be placed in an upper position on the face of the newly constructed Apparition Church. This Statue of Blessed Mother was placed in the Shrine Ground of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine on 12th February 1984.
The Blessed Mother Mary has made a request to recite the Holy Rosary at the feet of this Statue for 9 days, before it is removed from the location where it is placed now. Therefore, according to her request, devotees commenced to offer the Holy Rosary at the feet of this Statue of Blessed Virgin Mary. The 1st day of the recitation of Holy Rosary was commenced in the evening of 3rd August 2013. Accordingly, arrangements have been made to offer the Holy Rosary for 9 consecutive Saturdays.
The 4th day of recitation of Holy Rosary will be held in the evening of Saturday 24th August. The Most Holy Apostolic Father, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, is also expected to participate in the recitation of Holy Rosary.
Holy Apostolic Father participated in the 3rd day of recitation of Holy Rosary, which was held in the evening of 17th August 2013. His Holiness the Apostolic Father participated in the recitation of Holy Rosary from the podium of the garden of Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul, and the devotees who joined the Holy Apostolic Father, participated in the recitation of Holy Rosary, at the feet of this Statue of Blessed Mother.
