Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine is the One and Only Shrine in Sri Lanka, where the Blessed Virgin Mary has appeared. The Statue of Blessed Mother Mary, placed in this Shrine ground, had to be removed from the location where it was placed, to facilitate the ongoing construction work.
Special Vespers for Blessed Mother, presided over by the Holy Apostle, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, was conducted in the evening of Saturday 5th October 2013, before this Statue of Blessed Mother, placed in the Shrine Ground for a period close upon to 30 years, was removed from the location where it was placed.
This life size Statue of Blessed Mother, which has won the hearts of the people without any religious differences, is expected to be placed at an upper position on the face of the newly constructed Apparition Church.
The Sanctuary of Blessed Virgin Mary, placed in the Shrine Ground, was beautifully decorated on that day, as a mark of respect to her, and the Special Vespers were offered to her before her life size Statue.
