The solemn High Mass, presided over by the Most Holy Apostle, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, to bless the New Year 2014, was conducted on the special podium, erected in Holy Apostles Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine. This New Year Solemn High Mass was conducted with the participation of a large gathering of devotees, who arrived from various places without any race or religious differences.
On 31st December at 11.45 pm, the 56 year old Holy Apostle, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, dressed in gold colour vestments, arrived serenely at the special podium in Holy Apostles Peter & Paul garden.
Precisely at 12 midnight, when the New Year 2014 was dawned, the Most Holy Apostle, amidst the sound and echo of bells, announced the dawn of the New Year and greeted devotees in the newly dawned year. During this solemn High Mass, the Holy Apostle distributed the Body of Christ, in the form of Holy Communion and the Blood of Christ, in the form of wine to the devotees, as the First Meal of the New Year.
