“It is great to be born as human beings. Yet it is not an easier task. Every day, human beings are born into this world in every hour, in every minute and in every second. Human beings are also falls into the category of living beings. If we conduct our lives righteously, with a desire to accumulate merits and fearing to commit sins, then we could be happy about our own lives. All of us should understand the value of our own lives”

The Most Holy Apostolic Father, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso reflected the above when he delivered his Homily at the solemn High Mass which was offered on the occasion of his 57th birthday. In his Homily, His Holiness the Apostolic Father explained that people have not realized the greatness of being born as human beings and further stressed that the human beings should conduct their lives righteously, with a desire to accumulate merits and fearing to commit sins.

Continuing his homily, the Most Holy Apostolic Father further explained that each and every person who is born into this world will definitely have to face death and when death occurs it occurs without any race, religious or caste differences.

“When death occurs it occurs without any race, religious or caste differences. We are the people who are nourishing these differences. A birth occurs according to a certain plan. Today is my birthday. Therefore, today is the best occasion to speak about death because each and every one who is born into this world will definitely have to face death. Now, I will explain the final moment of a person. That means at the moment of your death or at your death bed, you could see the place where you are going to born after your demise. At that moment those who have accumulated merits will feel very happy. Accumulate merits as much as you can during this period of your journey of life. Do Good to others. Death is certain for each and every one of us. We have to face this. Think whether what I say is correct or wrong. Accumulate merits in such a way so that no one could point a finger at you. Do not commit sins”.

The solemn High Mass, offered to mark the 57th Birthday of His Holiness the Apostolic Father was commenced at 11.30 pm, on 1st February 2014. The Most Holy Apostolic Father, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso was born into this world, 57 years ago, on 1st February, precisely at 12 midnight. Therefore, the administrative committee of the Shrine made arrangements to hold this solemn High Mass in the midnight of 1st February.

The Most Holy Apostolic Father offered the solemn High Mass in Holy Apostles Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine with the participation of people, who converged in the Shrine of Our Lady of Katunayake from various places notwithstanding the midnight. The Homily that was reflected by His Holiness the Apostolic Father in that midnight was based on Birth, Life, Death, and Life after Death.

Continuing his Homily the Most Holy Apostolic Father, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso very clearly explained that a person who is at his death bed will know the place he will obtain in his next birth according to his merits and demerits which he has cultivated while he was among the living. Elaborating it further His Holiness the Apostolic Father reflected that those who have accumulated merits will face a pleasant death at their death bed and those who have lived a sinful life will face a fearful death at their death bed and that the fearful moment they experience at their death bed will even reflect from their dead bodies. The Most Holy Apostolic Father further emphasized that the people should have a thorough determination to develop a desire to accumulate merits and a fear to commit sins. He also stressed that it is the duty of all human beings not to commit any sins which will have to be repented later on.

His Holiness the Apostolic Father who was addressing devotes who converged in Holy Apostles Peter and Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine from various places, to participate in his birthday solemn High Mass, further reflected the following.

Certainly, “if any person has lived righteously from the time of his birth up to the time of his death, then that person could face his death fearlessly. Therefore, you have to have a determination to allow such a situation to surface. You have to have that determination today itself. If you have lived righteously by accumulating merits, then you can face your death happily. Your next birth will depend on whatever you say and do in your this journey of life. If you feel that you are currently walking on a wrong path, then, still there is time for you to reform yourself. Accumulate virtuous deeds. Do not commit sins. Gather merits. Develop meritorious thoughts in your mind. Then, your life will be successful”.

“This is the method that we have to adapt when we are living in this world. We should conduct ourselves in such a way so that later on we could be happy for the things that we have done. Do not ever conduct yourselves in a way that you will have to cry later on for the things that you have done. Think wisely before you say or do anything because some day at your death bed, you will definitely remember the things that you have said and done during this period of your journey of life”

“This human life that you have received in this journey of life is a very rare opportunity. Other living beings also would have been born at the very moment that you were born into this world. Similarly, other human beings also would have been born at the same time. Certainly, among them there would have been people who were born blind, people who were born deformed, people who were born deaf and people who were born crippled. Certainly, since you were born into this world as a human being who could understand the value of merits and demerits, be happy and praise God for that. You were born as a human being. Therefore, before your journey of life in this world comes to an end, determine to thank God happily, for the life that you have received. This is my today’s message”.

“Race, caste, religious, rich, poor or party differences will not have any influence on a birth or on a death of a person and the most important only issue is merits and demerits that a person has cultivated during the period of his journey of life”. These reflections of the Most Holy Apostle won the hearts of those who converged at the Shrine of Our Lady of Katunayake without any religious differences.
