“An educated person could be recognized not by the cloak he wears but by his virtuous behavior. In today’s society most of the parents’ use the word ‘Education’ to somehow earn wealth to give their children a comfort life. But unfortunately, today, it has become the goal of education. Parents’ responsibility is not bringing their child up to be a big person but a citizen, who is nourished with virtuous qualities”.
Most Holy Apostolic Father, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, reflected the above when he taught the first letter to a little child during the General Audience, which was held in the evening of 11th January 2014, in Holy Apostles’ Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.
The parents of the child Mr. W. Ashok Fernando and Mrs. Nilmini Fernando wished their 3 year old youngest son Anishka Devvinda should learn his first letter from His Holiness the Apostolic Father and receive his Apostolic Blessing before he begins his pre-school education.
Accordingly, at the commencement of the General Audience Mr. & Mrs. W. Ashok Fernando came before the Most Holy Apostolic Father along with their little son Anishka Devvinda and requested the Holy Apostolic Father to teach their child his first letter and to bless him before he begins his pre-school education.
The Most Holy Apostolic Father took the little child closer to him and taught him how to write the first letters of Sinhala & English alphabets and number one.
Mr. W Ashok Fernando is the Secretary of the Holy Apostolic Father and his 7 year old eldest son Upeksha Neluvinda also participated at the occasion. His 7 year old son Upeksha Neluvinda also learned his first letter from the Holy Apostolic Father before he began his pre-school education.
