The remarkable event of the Christmas midnight Holy Mass, which was celebrated by His Holiness Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso, on 24th December 2015, at the Miraculous Sacred Shrine of Our Lady of Katunayake, which is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, was unveiling the Apparition Statue of Blessed Mother Mary with Baby Jesus. The Most Holy Apostle, after unveiling the Statue, imparted his blessing.
The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared before His Holiness Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso on 27th July 1977, at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine, carrying Baby Jesus in her left arm. When this Apparition Statue of Blessed Mother carrying Baby Jesus was unveiled, devotees who converged in the Shrine Ground were overjoyed and their eyes, filled with tears of joy at that moment.
The Blessed Mother Mary has so far appeared in the Shrine of Our Lady of Katunayake for 23 occasions. When she appeared on 27th July 1977, she was carrying Baby Jesus in her left arm. That was her 18th appearance.
The Christmas midnight Holy Mass was celebrated in the Apparition Ground of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine. The blessing of the Apparition Statue of Blessed Mother Mary with Baby Jesus was imparted after the Most Holy Apostle reflected his Homily at the Christmas midnight Holy Mass.
His Holiness Apostle Aponso, after reflecting his Homily, walked to the place where the Apparition Statue of Blessed Mother Mary with Baby Jesus was placed to unveil the Statue. After unveiling it the Most Holy Apostle blessed the Statue while the hymn “Amma….” “Amma….” was sung. Devotees also began to sing the hymn loudly, in faith, to show their honour and respect to the Blessed Mother.
