His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso stated on the Good Friday, 19th April; all Christians should take attention of the information written on two thieves crucified next to Christ’s cross by the four Evangelists who wrote about the final hours of the Christ, the day Jesus Christ was crucified and killed on the cross.
Commemorating the Lord’s Passion, His Holiness the Apostle conducted the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m. in the Apparition Church of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.
His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso conducting a lengthy sermon at the foot of the Holy Cross placed inside the Apparition Church, addressing the devotees gathered stated, citing the facts from the Holy Bible, when reading the information recorded by the four Evangelists on the two thieves crucified next to Christ’s cross, the two questions of who is right and who is wrong arise. Describing the places in the Bible where those instances are mentioned, His Holiness the Apostle addressed the devotees and obliged a modest request from the devotees to refer the pages of the Bible when they go home.
Mark the Evangelist has written “with Him they crucified two robbers, one on His right and one on His left” (Mark 15/27), even though Mark is not an apostle appointed by the Jesus Christ, John the Apostle who was an apostle elected by the Jesus Christ when He was living on this earth has only written “There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them” (John 19/18) His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso stated, John the Apostle was the only apostle who was present at the foot of the cross.
His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso pointed out that Matthew the Evangelist has written “Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left” (Matthew 27/38) and Matthew the Evangelist has further mentioned that “The robbers who were crucified with Him also reviled Him in the same way” (Mathew 27/44), and He stated Mathew was an apostle elected by Jesus Christ when He was living on this earth.
His Holiness the Apostle also indicated Luke the Evangelist has written “Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with Him. And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on His right and one on His left” (Luke 23/32-33), but then contrary to the statement of the Matthew the Evangelist, Luke the Evangelist has written “One of the criminals who were hanged railed at Him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And He said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23/39-43).
The question whether both thieves on opposite sites insulted Jesus Christ as Matthew the Apostle has written or whether only one among the two insulted the Christ as Luke who was not an apostle has written, appears in front of us, stated His Holiness the Apostle. Even though Luke the Evangelist was not an apostle of Jesus, he was a close associate of Paul the Apostle; and according to the guidance of Paul the Apostle, in the gospel written by Luke it is mentioned that only one convict insulted Lord Jesus; His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso further explained this true story revealed by Paul the Apostle, who was the first apostle appointed by Jesus Christ though apparition.
Without the first apostle who was appointed by Jesus Christ through the apparition, a complete inaccurate story might have spread among societal and all Christians might have accused both thieves; but because Jesus appointed an apostle through the apparition, the accurate story is revealed, this was descriptively explained by His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso who is the second apostle appointed by Jesus Christ through the apparition in this world.
