June 26th 2019, nine years are completed since the death of His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Aponso. She was 90 years old when she was called to eternal rest on June 26th, 2010.
She spent her time at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine with the care of His Holiness the Apostle; she received the love and attention from the devotees, as a mother who delivered an apostle for the world and she remained in good conscious till the final moment.
She has disclosed many information to the devotees about the moments Blessed Virgin Mother Mary appeared to her son, His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso and the moment Jesus Christ appeared to her son and elected Him for Apostleship.
After late Mrs. Margeret Aponso was called for eternal rest, her remains were laid at the old Apparition Church of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine for the public to pay their respect. On June 29th her remains were buried in the Katunayake Cemetery after the funeral service presided by His Holiness the Apostle.
His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso who has received the power of testing souls, a power only received by an Apostle from Jesus Christ, searched what has happened to His mother’s soul through His power as an Apostle and He got to know His mother has gained entry to heaven.
Therefore, His Holiness the Apostle who though that His mother’s remains should be exhumed and laid at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine, requested permission from the court to exhume the body of His mother. The court granted permission for His Holiness the Apostle’s request.
We have heard about the instances where the bodies were exhumed. Each one happened on the orders of the judiciary. Even the court ordered such decrees, to conduct an autopsy when there is a complaint of a suspected murder of the deceased. Such bodies are exhumed in the presence of the coroner, and the body is taken to the medical laboratory to confirm the suspicion of death.
But for the first time in Sri Lanka, the judiciary gave permission to His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso to exhume His mother’s body from Katunayake Cemetry, to perform rituals according to His choice and to lay the body at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.
Accordingly, this mother’s body which was buried under the earth was exhumed after three months on September 23rd. Astonishing, everyone could see the incorrupt body of the mother of His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso even after three months. This incident was telecasted over the television news under prime headlines, as a rare and first incident in Sri Lanka.
The exhumed body of Mrs. Margret Aponso was laid at the old Apparition Church of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine. The casket was reopened, amidst the final respect of the devotees again and another Holy Mass was conducted with precedence of His Holiness the Apostle. At the end of the service, His Holiness the Apostle placed a red rose bouquet on the hands of mother’s body, who gained the entry to the heaven and whose body was exhumed after three months.
At present, the remains of His Holiness the Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso’s mother is laid in the Apostolic Tomb at Holy Apostles Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.
Combining the testaments of the eye witnesses of the event, the Apostolic Publication Bureau has published a book ‘Exhumed incorruptible body of the mother’ with colored images of the miraculous incident.
