The day was Tuesday in the morning of 15th December 2020. On a concept of the Senior Superintendent of Police Negombo Division, Mr. Saman Sigera, and upon his invitation, His Holiness The Apostolic Father Rohan Lalith Aponso visited the Office of Superintendent of Police Negombo Division to bless the statue of Jesus Christ, reverently established along with the statue of Lord Buddha at the entrance to the SSP’s Office.
His Holiness The Apostolic Father who became aware beforehand that there was also a statue of Lord Buddha established beside the statue of Jesus Christ, visited the SSP’s Office with a red candle to be placed in front of the statue of Jesus Christ and a tray of white flowers to be placed in front of the statue of Lord Buddha.
It was a significant incident that His Holiness The Apostolic Father Rohan Lalith Aponso prepared this tray of flowers at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine itself to be carried there.
His Holiness The Apostolic Father who arrived at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Negombo to bless the statue of Jesus Christ was reverently welcomed by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Saman Sigera, who subsequently accompanied His Holiness The Apostolic Father to the place where the statues had been established.
Afterwards, His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso blessed the statue of Jesus Christ, and lit a red candle in front of it, and paid homage to the statue of Lord Buddha, offering a tray of white flowers in front of it. Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Saman Sigera too joined His Holiness The Apostolic Father on that occasion.
We feel that the example set by His Holiness The Apostolic Father Rohan Lalith Aponso is a combined message of peace and loving-kindness that religious reconciliation should prevail in this way without being merely confined to boastful words.
