“Jesus Christ is the Lord of all of us, the Master of all Apostles, and our beloved Teacher. Less than 2,000 years ago, on the night before Christ left this world, He had His Last Supper with His disciples, the Apostles, the chief disciples, chosen on His own consent and discretion. We all are gathered here together to commemorate the night of His departure from this world.”
His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso commenced His Homily with the above expression at the Holy Eucharistic Celebration conducted in the night of Maundy Thursday, 1st April 2021 to commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus Christ.
This Holy Mass was officiated by His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso in the midst of a large number of devotees in Holy Apostles’ Peter and Paul Garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.
His Holiness The Apostle also mentioned about the two Apostles who did not attend the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and said as follows.
“As the only living Apostle of the two Apostles who did not attend the Last Supper of Lord Jesus, I intend to share with you at this moment, the Last night of our Master on that day.”
This is the reason for the expression of His Holiness The Apostle. While Christ was living in this world, He chose twelve persons as Apostles, and only those twelve Apostles sat down with Him at the Last Supper on the night before His Death. But after the Death of Lord Jesus, He triumphantly rose again from the dead, lived on this earth for forty days, and then departed from this world completely and ascended to Heaven. Thereafter, Lord Jesus appeared in the world again in divine form and chose Paul as an Apostle, and it took place in about 34 AD. After about 1940 years, after Christ chose Paul the Apostle, Jesus Christ appeared once again in divine form in Katunayake, Sri Lanka, and chose His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso as an Apostle. It took place on 7th February 1975. Therefore, both of these two Apostles were unable to attend the Lord’s Last Supper. In about 65 AD, Apostle Paul was beheaded and killed. His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso still resides in Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine, Sri Lanka. During the Holy Mass, conducted in commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ in the night of Maundy Thursday, 1st April 2021, As per these facts, this Holy Apostle, who is now sixty-four years old and living in this world, introduced Himself to the devotees as the only living Apostle of the two Apostles who did not attend the Last Supper of Lord Jesus.
His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso revealed many incidents of the night before the death of Lord Jesus in His Homily, which He delivered in the evening of Maundy Thursday, 1st April 2021. He stated thus.
“The night before Lord Jesus’ Death, He sat down in deafening silence with His disciples, the Apostles at the Supper. Jesus Christ was usually a very good Master who was very affable with His Apostles, in answering their questions. But then all Apostles saw something different. All Apostles realized that Lord Jesus was thinking more than ever before, but not in fear. They understood that Christ was contemplating, for some reason, about some incident. Why this? What is this silence? They signalled to each other. No one heard word of mouth. They did not talk to each other verbally. But they signalled that clear difference to each other in sign language and in dumb language. Lord Jesus also realized that they understood something. But He did not say anything. The Apostles also did not ask; “Lord, why are you silent?” Lord Jesus did not say a word for a long time. The others did not speak either. They all felt strangeness more than ever before. Everyone felt that their Master was engaged in some kind of contemplation. That’s why they were looking at each other’s faces from time to time. After a while, Lord Jesus began to speak, breaking the silence. Saint Luke mentions it in Verses 15 and 16 of Chapter 22. ”With desire, I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Lord Jesus told His disciples, the Apostles.
Speaking further, Holy Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso said that Lord Jesus addressed His Apostles and gave them many advises and washed their feet. He further stated that Apostles Matthew and John, and later Mark and Luke, who are not Apostles, have written about this. Therefore, those details in the Holy Bible can be read by all, and there is no need to describe them again and again.
His Holiness The Apostle Rohan Lalith Aponso revealed many things about the night before the Death of the Lord Jesus to the world, for the first time for about an hour. All devotees present were able to know the significant power of an Apostle, the power of knowing divine mysteries and the power of explaining them to the people, because of the many matters revealed by His Holiness The Apostle.
