What should be the principle of Christians? Holy Apostle, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, raised this question during the course of his Homily, which he delivered in the evening of Saturday 27th April 2013, at Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine.

The Holy Apostle, who offered the Holy Mass in the Sanctuary of Sts Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine, further reflected the following.

“Lord Jesus Christ has mentioned what should be our Christian principle. He has also on and off mentioned on what principle the Christian people, I mean, the followers of Christ should act. He has taught several principles to us, Christians, Therefore, as Christians, others should recognize us, as the people who are safeguarding those principles”.

Continuing his Homily, the Holy Apostle reminded the following words by extracting a section from the Holy Scriptures.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot afterward do anything worse. I will show you whom to fear; fear God, Who, after killing, has the authority to throw into hell. Believe me, he is the one you must fear!” (Luke 12: 4- 5)

The Holy Apostle further reminded that all Christians should live among various denominations of people, by keeping their backbone straight. Continuing his Homily, the Holy Apostle further reflected the following.

“We should get afraid not to human beings. We should get afraid not to human beings who could kill our body. Jesus says you should fear God, Who, after killing has the authority to throw into hell and not to anybody else. Therefore, first of all, from these words, we, as Christians should know to live by keeping our backbone straight. Otherwise, if we bend our backbone, various other people could climb on our back. Therefore, among various denominations of people, we, as Christians, should live by keeping our backbone straight. We should not get afraid of people who could kill our body. Jesus says “I will show you whom to fear; fear God, Who, after killing, has the authority to throw into hell. Believe me, he is the one you must fear!” Jesus tells us we should get afraid only to God who could throw us into hell after our death”.

Holy Apostle, His Holiness Rohan Lalith Aponso, who wishes to make a society which is willing to gather merits and fear to commit sins, reflects his Homilies to all people without any religious differences. During the course of his Homily which he delivered at the Holy Mass, which was celebrated in the Sanctuary of Sts. Peter & Paul garden of Our Lady of Katunayake’s Shrine, the Holy Apostle further reflected the following.

“We should recognize what is correct and what is wrong. We should choose what is correct. Similarly, as Christians, we should recognize merits and demerits. We will be afraid to commit sins, if we fear God, who has the authority to throw us into hell after our death. He will do that only if we, who live in this human body, commit sins. Otherwise, he will not throw us into hell. Therefore, Lord Jesus Christ says the true Christian, and all Christians who are scattered around the world should live by fearing to commit sins. He also says we should follow that as our Christian principle. We should recognize all acts which are not falling into the category of sin and accordingly, we should distance ourselves from sins and we should live by rejecting sins. Therefore, as Christians, we should follow that principle.”

Devotees, who arrived from various places to participate in the Holy Mass, converged before the Holy Apostle. Addressing all of them, the Holy Apostle further reflected the following to conclude his Homily.

“In a Buddhist country like Sri Lanka, sometimes we could hear that Christians are not afraid to commit sins. Then, to whom we are giving that bad name? To whom we are giving that disgrace? We are giving that humiliation to Lord Jesus Christ. But Christ has not told us to live like that. Christ has not told us to live in fear of human beings, yet, he has told us to live in fear of God, who has the authority to throw us into hell after our death. Jesus says do not be afraid of those who kill the body, cannot afterward do anything worse. They can kill your body other than that they can’t do anything. We should be afraid to God who has the authority to decide on our eternal life. If you live in fear of God and show your loyalty to God, then, as Christians, you have to be afraid of committing sins. This is the message Lord Jesus Christ gives you.”
